Black Berkey Primer

With the Black Berkey Primer Tool, you can now easily prime your Black Berkey Filters without a faucet or water pressure. This primer tool uses hand power to saturate the filters – making it an excellent off-grid option or an alternative priming method for those with larger diameter faucets, shallow sinks, or other circumstances that make standard priming methods difficult. Now you can have clean and safe drinking water no matter where you are!

Prime or Purge

To ensure optimal performance of Black Berkey Filters, it is recommended to prime (saturate) or purge (back-flush) the filters regularly. To prime the filters, simply allow water to run through them until they are completely saturated. To purge the filters, force air instead of water through their interiors to clear out any debris that may be clogging their micropores. Additionally, purging will quickly dry out the filters if you intend on storing them for an extended period of time.

FAQs

Why do you need a Black Berkey Primer?

An alternative solution for priming filters is the Prime Rite tool, which offers a faster way to purge and dry out filters than letting them air dry. This is especially useful for those who frequently pack up and store filters, as it saves time that would otherwise be spent waiting for the filters to completely dry.

How to clean and store the Black Berkey Primer?

To properly clean and store a primer, start by creating a solution of mild dish soap and warm water. Use this to thoroughly wash all parts of the primer. Then, rinse off any remaining residue before allowing the parts of the primer to fully dry. To ensure maximum longevity, it is best to store the primer in an area that is cool, dark and dry; avoid leaving it exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

Will the Black Berkey Primer work with non-Berkey filters?

No, it is specifically designed for use with Black Berkey Filters.
