Prime your Black Berkey Filters effortlessly with the Black Berkey Primer. No need for a faucet or water pressure – simply use the hand-powered pump to saturate the filters. This primer tool is a fantastic alternative for those with oversized faucets or shallow sinks that don't accommodate traditional priming methods.
Not only does the Black Berkey Primer prime your filters, but it also allows you to purge them effortlessly. By forcing air through the filter instead of water, you can effectively clean out the micropores of the carbon filter.
This process removes any debris that may have accumulated from use or poor-quality source water, ensuring optimal filter performance. And purging the filters speeds up the drying process, making long-term storage a breeze.

About this item
The Black Berkey Primer is a hand-powered priming pump that allows you to prime your system’s Black Berkey Elements almost anywhere without a pressurized faucet or hose connection.
Priming Black Berkey Elements saturates the filters with water prior to use, removing any pockets of air trapped inside the filters which can slow down the filters' ability to produce clean water. Black Berkey Elements must be primed before first use to insure proper operation.
Easy to use—with a Black Berkey Element properly immersed in water and attached to it, the Black Berkey Primer creates a simple pressure gradient which draws water into the center of each Black Berkey Element. Once the Black Berkey Element is completely saturated with water, the water passes through the Black Berkey Primer and squirts out of the opposite end.
The Black Berkey Primer can also purge, or backflush, Black Berkey Elements using air instead of water, clearing the compressed carbon filter wall of water debris that has accumulated with use and reducing the time and effort needed to dry the filters prior to storing them.
A pressure gradient in the Berkey Primer draws water into the center of the attached filter, allowing it to be saturated with water.
2. Why do you need a Black Berkey Primer?
When priming the filters, there is a solution for those who struggle with Priming Button, Prime Rite, or soaking. If packing up and storing filters frequently, waiting for them to completely dry is time-consuming. The primer tool also dries out filters faster than letting them air dry.
3. How to clean and store the Black Berkey Primer?
Keep out of direct sunlight for long periods of time. Best to store in a cool, dark, dry area. Use mild dish soap and warm water solution to clean all components of the primer.
4. Will the Black Berkey Primer work with non-Berkey filters?
It is specifically designed for Black Berkey Filters.
We eat a lot of this type of rice, so this is a great long term food storage option for us. It can be hard to find specific items that you actually eat that will store 25+ years. Safecastle has so many of these items!
Fast, efficient service. However, I ordered PRI-G (for gasoline) and got PRI-D (for diesel)!
I kept it because I wanted some anyway, but it was a pretty big error on their part. No, I didn't contact the company to correct the mistake since I was willing to keep the PRI-D.
Love this product but I might look fir a different source. Furst of all, the butter I received was already a tear old. And, of the 12 cans in NY order, half qere dented upon arrival. I gave received curdled butter in NY previous order. I'm not happy here
One can in the middle of the case was quite beat up. I opened that one first to make sure it smelled okay. It did. So I ate it and have suffered no ill effects. I don’t know how canned pork is supposed to taste but it is different than fresh. It was very lean compared to the other types of canned meat that I have had. I mixed it with beans in a chili.
